Social Change Lab has two exciting opportunities for people passionate about social movements, animal advocacy and research to join our team.

Director (Maternity Cover)

We are looking for a strategic leader to join our team as interim Director. This role will be maternity cover for our current Director and will be a 12 month contract from July 2024.

As Director, you would have a high level of responsibility and high impact. You would lead our small team in delivering cutting-edge research on the outcomes and strategies of the animal advocacy and climate movements and ensuring widespread communication of this work to key stakeholders. You would play a significant role in shaping our strategy and the programmes we want to deliver, such as research, capacity building, training or philanthropic advising.

Please see the job pack for the full details of the role and person specification, and apply here.

Research and Communications Officer

We also have a potential opportunity for a Research and Communications Officer to join our team for 12 months to play a key role in delivering our exciting research programme and communicating our work to a broader audience.

Please note this role is dependent on how hiring for our interim Director goes, as we will likely only hire one of these two roles. However we would like to share the opportunity now to ensure that any interested candidates can apply.

Please see the job pack for the full details of the role and person specification, and apply here.

If you have any questions about either role, please reach out to me at mabli@socialchangelab.org

Hello everyone! We wanted to ask for your help with three specific actions regarding the Egg Labeling Bill being discussed in Congress. This month is crucial. Currently, the Egg Labeling Bill in Peru is before the Consumer Rights Committee. This committee will vote on it in the coming weeks, and we expect it to be passed to the full Congress for final approval. 1 - Updated petition https://shorturl.at/lT5WY 2 - Automatic link to email members of Congress whose vote is undecided on the bill https://tinyurl.com/yzm2sw9u 3 - If you use Twitter, this thread is very important because you can tag members.   FIRST: Important update on the Egg Labeling Bill! A new substitute text was presented that responds point by point to the MIDAGRI arguments. Here we explain it easily. @waldemar_cerron @katy_ugarte @rosiotorressali @edgartellom   SECOND: Will the price of eggs go up? FALSE. The PL doesn't require changes in breeding or processing. It only asks for transparency: indicating whether the egg was raised in a cage, shed, or pasture. Furthermore, bulk eggs are excluded. @waldemar_cerron @katy_ugarte @rosiotorressali @edgartellom   THIRD: Does it affect small producers? NO. The PL excludes those with 1,000 hens or fewer. It only applies to medium and large producers. @waldemar_cerron @katy_ugarte @rosiotorressali @edgartellom   FOURTH: Do all animal husbandry methods guarantee animal welfare? NO. Hens in cages are kept immobilized. This system was banned in the EU more than 10 years ago. The PL doesn't prohibit it, it just informs. @waldemar_cerron @katy_ugarte @rosiotorressali @edgartellom   FIFTH: Why is it important? Because information empowers. Consumers have the right to know how what they consume was produced. @waldemar_cerron @katy_ugarte @rosiotorressali @edgartellom   Thank you very much!

* After negotiations with ICAW, the UK retailer Morrisons committed to eliminating eyestalk ablation and implementing pre-slaughter electric stunning for all farmed shrimp in its supply chain by 2027. * We have been actively talking to them for several months and they have been very impressed by our recent campaign against Iceland, including our recent protests in London! Morrisons joins several UK retailers that have already made similar commitments: M&S, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Ocado, and Co-op. A huge thank you to everyone who participated to this win for shrimp !
