Hello Fast!

Following a relentless 7-month cage-free accountability campaign led by The Humane League, Hardee's is now reporting its cage-free progress for all US locations! Additionally, parent company CKE Restaurants is reporting progress for Hardee's and Carl's Jr's international locations! Carl's Jr reported achieving 100% cage-free fulfillment in the US in July 2024. From CKE's animal welfare page

We have committed to transitioning our egg supply to 100% cage-free eggs in our restaurants globally by the end of 2025.

We are pleased to report that in all domestic Carl’s Jr. restaurants we have met our commitment and are 100% cage free. As of September 2024, all domestic Hardee’s locations, more than 40% of our egg volume is cage-free and for all international Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s locations, 5% of our total egg volume is cage-free.

Hardee's and Carl's Jr together operate approximately 3800 locations in 44 US states and 35 international markets. We estimate this will impact more than 1.37 million hens. Thank you to everyone advocating on behalf of animals, and extra thanks to all who have supported our efforts and taken action to hold CKE, Hardee's, and Carl's Jr accountable!

Timeline: The Humane League has been conducting corporate outreach to CKE for several years; our accountability campaign launched in April 2024 following the publication of our 2024 Cage-Free Eggsposé Report.

Who: The Humane League

Successful tactics: A Week of Action in CKE's hometown of Franklin, TN, including protests at CKE's headquarters. This generated local media coverage and elicited an unprecedented public response from Hardee's on this issue. Other tactics included executive websites, mobile billboards, newspaper ads, digital ads, and overwhelming supporter actions.

Follow-up: We will continue holding CKE accountable via corporate outreach and public reports until it achieves 100% cage-free egg sourcing for all locations.

Hello FAST members   Two months ago we submitted to the Servicio Nacional de Sanidad Agraria  (Senasa), an agency attached to the  Ministerio de Desarrollo Agrario y Riego  (Midagri), a regulatory proposal aimed at incorporating specific provisions of Animal welfare in the land transport of farm animals. Currently, national legislation only addresses health and hygiene requirements, without establishing criteria to guarantee minimum welfare conditions during transport. This regulatory gap has negative consequences, as it increases animal suffering and the incidence of injuries and mortality, particularly in situations of stress or accidents during transport. Our proposal seeks to align Peruvian regulations with the regional and international standardsIn this sense, we highlight the positive openness of Midagri and Senasa to evaluate the initiative and the relevance of the interest expressed by the Comunidad Andina, which has been promoting regulatory harmonization in this area among member countries.  In this regard, we have already held a meeting with the group of lawyers from both institutions, as well as with the Andean Community, advancing discussions toward the creation of a joint guide to animal welfare in the Peruvian land transportation system. We trust that the incorporation of animal welfare criteria in transport will represent a significant advance in both animal protection and welfare in the country. Great day, Iselda Livoni Arba Peru
