The new European Commission, announced today, will include a Commissioner dedicated to Animal Welfare, in a move that has been very positively welcomed by animal protection NGOs. 

Hungary’s Olivér Várhelyi has been nominated to take on this role, subject to his approval in the European Parliament hearing in the next weeks.
