Global

Animal Equality concluded seven weeks of protests in the Netherlands against grocery giant Ahold Delhaize, demanding an end to the use of cages for hens in its U.S. supply chain. Simultaneously, we organized demonstrations outside Dutch embassies in six countries (the U.S., the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, and Brazil) urging the monarchy to revoke Ahold’s “Royal” title for failing to uphold its values. Our campaign against Marriott International also continues with protests across the globe.

European Union

After the European Commission excluded reforms to ban cages and chick killing from its 2026 agenda, we protested outside its headquarters and began preparing a campaign to demand their inclusion. We also participated in the EU Parliament’s Animal Welfare Intergroup, urging a Europe-wide ban on chick killing through in-ovo sexing technology.

Spain

We held two protests in Madrid—outside Congress and in the city center—demanding a ban on force-feeding for foie gras. We urged political parties to back the upcoming discussion on the proposal to end this cruelty. We also released a new report tracking the hospitality sector’s shift toward cage-free eggs.

Mexico

We participated in the first Sustainable Food Forum, organized by Alianza Alimentaria and Jalisco’s family development agency, highlighting animal protection as key to sustainability. In line with the 2023 Sustainable Food Law we helped pass in Mexico, the country updated its dietary guidelines to promote less meat and more plant-based foods. We introduced a bill to ensure that the Environment and Natural Resources Committees explicitly include Animal Welfare in their mandates. Love Veg continues hosting plant-based workshops for nutrition students.
