Position Overview

NARN seeks a detail-oriented and motivated Policy and Programs Lead to support our campaigns, events, and outreach. This 30-hour-a-week role is a temporary position currently hiring for Nov 1st – Dec 31st, 2025, with the potential for further opportunities in the future as the need arises. The ideal candidate is passionate about animal rights, proactive, and comfortable balancing a variety of tasks in a dynamic, small-organization environment.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Lead

• Prepare and give public testimony at legislative committee hearings and WDFW Commission Public Meeting
• Take lead on CAFO Campaign policy considerations
• Legislative committee meetings: wildlife issues and legislator engagement
• Plan and circulate meeting agendas for committees and working groups
• Write press releases
• Work with partner organizations on crafting and securing sponsors for legislation
• Perform other work related to maintaining NARN’s policy awareness and efforts related to our campaigns

Networking with Partner Organizations

• Work with partner organizations on shared initiatives
• Take a leadership role in the Washington State Wildlife coalition, assisting partners in policy support and engaging animal rights movement with wildlife; attend coalition meetings and be responsive to calls for support and collaboration
• Attend and give testimony at WDFW Commission meetings
• Work in Animals in Labs testing bill collaboration with Animal Rights Initiative
• Participate in monthly Washington State Fur Fighters Legislative Committee meetings

Qualifications (We recognize that each applicant for this role will bring unique skills, knowledge, experiences, and background to this position. We welcome diverse experiences and perspectives in our applicant pool, and will be looking for candidates who possess many, but not necessarily all, of the following skills and experience.)

• Knowledge of how Washington State Legislature works
• Experience or familiarity with writing legislative bills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities
• Experience in community organizing, communications, or nonprofit work
• Commitment to NARN’s mission and animal rights principles

Nice to have:

• Basic website editing experience (WordPress or similar platform preferred)
• Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive), understanding of team-based tools such as Slack and Notion, and familiarity with Canva, Action Network, or similar tools
• Fundraising experience

Schedule and Work Environment

This position is part-time (approximately 30 hours per week) with flexible scheduling. Work is primarily remote with occasional in-person activities in the Seattle area. (In-person activities are negotiable.)
