Hello everyone!
We are pleased to share great news from Peru: Bill No. 12220/2025-CR has been introduced to the Congress of the Republic for the first time. This bill requires the use of anesthesia and analgesia for the detusking, tail docking, and castration of baby pigs.
This bill, drafted by ARBA and promoted in collaboration with Te Protejo, will be accompanied by a media campaign to raise public awareness about these practices, which are largely unknown but cause unnecessary suffering to millions of piglets each year.
The initiative is currently before the Agrarian Commission, where a long and complex phase of working groups and meetings with its members awaits us. At ARBA, we will align our strategies to address this process, aware that it will be challenging, but convinced of its importance in advancing the protection of animals raised for consumption in Peru.
Since 2016, our country has had an Animal Welfare Law that prohibits unnecessary animal suffering. However, specific regulations are still needed to put an end to these practices that continue to cause avoidable pain.
We invite you to sign and share the petition in support of this bill: https://chng.it/dkyVCXBNVm
If you would like us to send you the bill presented, please let us know, we would be happy to share it.
Have a great week!
Iselda
